Breaking Silence

After a year of lockdowns and isolation, in Spring 2021 we released a four-part podcast series exploring what it is to be silent and to be silenced.

Every fortnight, in conversation with a range of internationally renowned artists and guest speakers, we discussed ways in which voices, stories and cultures have been silenced, when silence can be a positive force for change, and what role the arts can play in breaking silences.

The series of conversations covers topics including Spain's 'pact of forgetting' of its dark past under Franco; giving voice to women and female experience; the silencing of cultural identity across national borders; and issues of censorship and self-censorship in the creation of art.
